Fly to Provo
Traveling to Turks & Caicos is pretty simple these days. The main island of Providenciales (better known as Provo) serves as the hub of airline activity. The Providenciales International Airport (PLS) serves daily international flights from just about anywhere.
If you are staying on North Caicos or Middle Caicos during your trip, you’ll want to pick the earliest flight possible so that you can make it through customs, take a taxi across Provo to the ferry dock, and then ride the ferry over to North Caicos before services are done for the day.
The airport customs line can be especially long on the weekends and even on weekdays when multiple flights have landed. Plan on anywhere from 1-2 hours to be on the safe side.
Taxi across Provo
Next, it’s about a 30-45 minute taxi ride from the airport to the Provo ferry dock without any stops. Some people choose to make a stop at the grocery store on the way; however, the grocery stores on North Caicos have just about anything you’ll need during your stay.
Ferry to North
Once you arrive at the ferry dock on Provo at the Heaving Down Rock Marina, take a deep breath and relax! The warm air and turquoise blue waters will sooth your traveling soul.
You can prepay for your tickets (recommended) or get them upon your arrival. Due to the timing of your flight, you’ll more than likely be on the last or second-to-last ferry. Make sure to check the ferry service schedule and take note of any adjusted times due to holidays or weekends. If you buy a round-trip ticket for your arrival and departure dates, just make sure to hold on to them during your trip!
Rental Car to Lodging
If you’re staying on North Caicos or Middle Caicos, you’ll want to have a rental car during your stay. It is best to arrange this in advance so that it can be waiting for you upon your arrival to the ferry dock on North Caicos at the Sandy Point Marina. From there you’ll drive (on the left side of the road) to the place where you’ll be staying. If you’re staying on Middle Caicos, enjoy traveling on the beautiful and one-of-a-kind causeway that links the two islands.
Make sure you get a North & Middle Caicos map, and as you’re driving, make note of the grocery stores, restaurants and gas stations. There are several great North Caicos rental car companies and of course amazing places to stay that fit a wide variety of budget and accommodation needs. Your villa or home host will likely have some great recommendations for rental car services – just ask – they are there to help!
Enjoy & Explore
Last, enjoy the journey. Drive everywhere, explore high, low and far. Experience the locals and all there is to offer through their homes, restaurants, water-sports rentals, charters and more. Here on North Caicos and Middle Caicos, you’ll find out why these Turks & Caicos islands are “beautiful by nature.”
